According to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, a man was arrested on suspicion of murdering his mother with a handgun.
Authorities said Pima County deputies were dispatched to a home on West Nighthawk Way in Tucson around 11 a.m. on Sunday for reports of a shooting. When the deputies arrived at the house, they found a man holding a handgun at the front door.
Officials identified the man as 37-year-old Jonathan Hatmaker after taking him into custody.
Deputies entered the house and discovered a female victim with gunshot wounds. Peggy Hatmaker, who was 66 years old, died at the scene of the accident because of her injuries.
According to officials, detectives investigated the incident and identified Peggy’s son, Jonathan, as the suspect. Jonathan was arrested for first-degree murder and taken to the Pima County Adult Detention Complex.
The Sheriff’s Department said that the investigation was still going on and that more information would be released as it became available.
