With Sunday’s 16-9 win over the Broncos, the New York Jets improved to 5-2 on the season, but they may have lost a key player for the rest of the season.
Robert Saleh, the head coach of the New York Jets, told reporters after the game that the initial diagnosis of the knee injury to running back Breece Hall is “not good.” Saleh also said that they think Hall hurt his ACL.
Ian Rapoport, who works for NFL Network, said that Hall will get more tests to find out how bad the injury is.
On Sunday, the first-year player for the Jets hurt his knee on a first-and-10 run with a little more than three minutes left in the second quarter. After getting hurt, he had to be carried off the field and was ruled out for the rest of the game.
Hall ran four times for 72 yards and a touchdown before he had to be carried off.
The pick from the second round had a good start to the season. He ran the ball 76 times for 391 yards and three touchdowns. In his first six games, the Iowa State graduate had 19 catches for 218 yards and one touchdown. He was a threat out of the backfield.
Now that Hall can’t play, New York will probably rely on running backs Michael Carter and Ty Johnson to fill in for him. Carter, a second-year pro, started the first five games of the season for the Jets. In Week 6, when the Jets beat the Green Bay Packers, they switched to Hall. Johnson has been with the team for four years, but he hasn’t done much so far this season.
In Week 8, the Jets (5-2) will play at home against the Patriots (3-3).
