The Buccaneers Plot and Synopsis

The Buccaneers is set in the 1870s when a group of rich young American women travels to England in search of husbands and titles. The British press refers to them as “buccaneers” because they are viewed as invaders who pillage the nobility.

However, when they experience many problems and conflicts in their personal and social lives, they quickly realize that money and position are insufficient to ensure happiness. In the framework of the Gilded Age, the series examines topics such as class, gender, love, marriage, ambition, and identity.

The novel was previously adapted into a miniseries by the BBC in 1995, starring Carla Gugino, Mira Sorvino, Alison Elliott, Rya Kihlstedt, Cherie Lunghi, Greg Wise, James Frain, Mark Tandy, Ronan Vibert, Jenny Agutter, Michael Kitchen, Rosemary Leach, Sheila Hancock, Dinsdale Landen, Connie Booth, Richard Huw, John McEnery, Peter Jeffrey, and Gwen Humble.
