Cj Harris, who was a semi-finalist on Season 13 of “American Idol,” died suddenly at the age of 31.
Sources told Tmz that the pop star had a heart attack on Sunday in his home town of Jasper, Alabama. After that, he was rushed to the hospital, but he died soon after.
Harris had a memorable audition for the Fox Talent Show in 2014, when he played the Allman Brothers Band’s hit song “Soul shine” in a way that brought the house down.
The judge, Keith Urban, told the hopeful singer, “You sing because you have to, not because you want to.”
“And I really mean that,” the country star added. “And that’s why it’s so real and easy to believe.”
The singer also sang cover versions of “Too Close,” “American Woman,” and “Free Falling” on the show.
After not getting enough votes to make it to the semi-finals, Harris was chosen as a “wild card.” He got as far as the top six before he was taken out.
Harris had success after his time on “American Idol,” including a performance at the Grand Ole Opry with Darius Rucker, whose style he said influenced his own.
