Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, a new limited series on Netflix, tells about the horrifying crimes of the famous American serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer. It also tells the stories of some of his long-forgotten victims from their own points of view.
Tony Hughes, who was deaf and couldn’t talk, is one of Dahmer’s victims who has finally been given a chance to “tell” his story.
The sixth episode of the series is about Tony, who is played by Rodney Burford. It looks at Tony’s interactions with Jeffrey Dahmer and how he eventually killed him. But who was Tony Hughes, and what happened to him? What you need to know is listed below.
Tony Was Deaf And Could Not Speak
FBI records show that Anthony “Tony” Hughes was born on August 26, 1959. Source says that some of the side effects of the medicines he was given as a child caused him to lose his hearing for good. He also seemed to be mute.
Gallaudet University says that Tony went to the Wisconsin School for the Deaf and graduated from there. Tony’s mother, Shirley Hughes, told The Associated Press that her son was “outgoing, jolly, and happy,” and that “he could easily make friends.”
How Did Tony Meet Jeffrey Dahmer?
People say that they met at a gay bar, where Tony wrote on a notepad to talk to people. He had talked to Jeffrey Dahmer, the man who would kill him, in the same way.
Tony went to Madison to see his family and “On May 24, 1991, he went to a gay bar in Milwaukee to dance. Jeffrey Dahmer found him, took him home, drugged him, cut him up, and kept his head “according to news stories from The Associated Press from the present day.
Was Tony Hughes And Jeffrey Dahmer Are Friends?
The show shows how the two became interested in each other and even shows Dahmer at some of Hughes’ photoshoots. However, it’s not clear how much of the episode is based on real events and how much is made up.
But his mother told The Associated Press that her son “took a new job two weeks earlier but never got his first paycheck,” and that “she was unable to contact the friend because she only knew his first name, Jeffrey.”
Tony Was Dahmer’s 12th Victim.
History says that Dahmer later admitted to killing Tony and was given 15 consecutive life sentences in 1992 for killing Tony and 14 other people. Between 1978 and 1991, Jeffrey killed a total of 17 teens and men.
Where Is Tony Hughes Now?
In 1991, Jeffrey Dahmer took Tony Hughes’s life. But even in the show, not much is said about how Tony was killed.
But FBI records show that Hughes, who was 31 at the time, went missing on May 31, 1991. No one had seen him since May 24, when they saw him at the “219-Club.” In July 1991, two months later, his skull and vertebrae, along with the remains of many other victims, were found in Dahmer’s apartment.
Tony was found through his dental records, and his mother found out about his death at the beginning of July.
“Shirley Hughes, his mother, told The Associated Press in 1992, “When it first happened, I thought I was going to go crazy.” She said in another interview, “I just prayed and asked God to help me find my son. I only wanted to know if he was still alive or dead. It hurts to see how he died. It’s hard to put into words.′′
