Stephanie Ann Schneggenburger, 55, was killed in a tragic head-on crash on US-221 in Ashe County. The deadly accident occurred on August 6, with heavy rain and challenging driving conditions. Stephanie was riding in a 2022 Honda CRV driven by her husband, Bruce Schneggenburger.
Nicholas Sponholz of Fleetwood drove a 2001 GMC Canyon southbound on US-221 near Woodstown Road at about 2:30 p.m. on that fateful day. Tragically, the GMC lost control and drove into oncoming traffic, crashing with the Schneggenburgers’ Honda CRV head-on. Despite surviving the initial crash, Stephanie Ann Schneggenburger had significant injuries in the tragedy.
She was soon brought to Watauga Medical Center, where physicians did everything possible to save her life. Sadly, despite their dedicated care, Stephanie’s injuries proved too serious, culminating in her untimely and tragic death, adding significant sadness to an already heartbreaking situation.
It is worth noting that the collision tragically claimed the lives of Stephanie Schneggenburger and her husband Bruce Schneggenburger at the site. Their loss has profoundly impacted their family, friends, and community.
