Mallett, a rising high school star born in Batesville, Arkansas, but raised in Texarkana, Texas, formerly held the No. 2 quarterback and No. 4 overall rankings on Rivals.com. He was also named the 2006 Gatorade Player of the Year in Texas. He left for Michigan to play for the Wolverines in college before returning to Arkansas to join the Razorbacks as a sophomore.

Mallett won the 2010 Premier Player of College Football Trophy and other accolades while playing in college. He was twice named to the second team of the Southeastern Conference. He eventually joined the NFL after the New England Patriots selected him in the draft’s third round.

He played three seasons behind Tom Brady, who is largely regarded as the best quarterback ever to play the position there. He would later play for the Houston Texans for two seasons and the Baltimore Ravens for three more when he enjoyed his best success in the NFL and twice completed more than 250 passes per game. After his NFL career, Mallett was the head football coach at White Hall High School in White Hall, Arkansas.

When Did Ryan Mallett Pass Away?

According to the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office, former Arkansas quarterback Ryan Mallett, who later had a seven-year NFL career, died on Tuesday (June 27, 2023) in an apparent drowning at a Florida beach. He was 35.

The first responders were called to a beach in Destin, Florida, at about 2:12 p.m. local time when a group of persons swimming in the Gulf of Mexico close to a sandbar struggled to return to shore. One of the victims, later named Mallett, was dragged from the river unconscious and sent to a nearby hospital, where he was declared deἀd.
