A Vermont burglary suspect will be arraigned Monday on charges linked to the incident after leading police on a high-speed chase and crashing his truck into two police cars, ki!!ing a 19-year-old officer and wounding two others.
Tate Rheaume, 20, is charged with extremely negligent operation and attempting to elude, both of which resulted in de@th. Additional charges are possible, according to state police. It was unclear whether he is being represented by an attorney.
Jessica Ebbighausen, a Rutland City Police Officer, was slain on Friday afternoon. The crash occurred as police pursued a vehicle driven by Rheaume, a suspect in an attempted house break-in. You can see the tweet below:

According to authorities, Rheaume crossed the middle line and slammed head-on with Ebbighausen’s cruiser. The suspect’s vehicle also collided with another police cruiser.
At the scene, Ebbighausen was pronounced deceased. According to authorities, the two other policemen and Rheaume were brought to Rutland Regional Medical Center with injuries. Police said Rheaume was taken to the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington and was listed in serious but stable condition on Saturday afternoon. One officer, Kelsey Parker, was released from the Rutland hospital on Friday, and another, Richard Caravaggio, was released on Saturday.
Authorities say a third officer, Jared Dumas, was also pursuing Rheaume but was not engaged in the incident and was not physically wounded. Officers Ebbighausen and Caravaggio were not wearing seat belts at the time of the crash, according to a Vermont State Police investigation.

Following the completion of an autopsy on Saturday, over three dozen law enforcement officials and first responders escorted Ebbighausen’s body from the medical examiner’s office in Burlington back to Rutland, according to state police. Ebbighausen has been a part-time Rutland City officer since May and was scheduled to complete full-time training in August.
“I think it’s more important now than ever to ask for the support of the community. We’re hurting. I think with the events of this week, I think you can probably imagine that it’s not an easy job,” Chief Brian Kilcullen said during a press conference Friday night, according to CBS affiliate WCAX-TV. “A young woman, who for years, longed to be a police officer, since she was nine years old. It’s all she wanted to be.”
According to the Officer Down Memorial Page, which chronicles law enforcement de@ths, Ebbighausen is the 29th Vermont officer to die in the line of duty, including two in car pursuits.
