Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and his staff were unharmed in an automobile collision in Tennessee on Tuesday, according to his presidential campaign. According to the Chattanooga Times Free Press, Republican presidential candidate Ron DeSantis, 44, was slated to attend a fundraiser in Chattanooga on Tuesday.

The initial campaign statement did not include any additional information regarding the collision, such as how it happened or how many individuals or vehicles were involved. Later that morning, Chattanooga police confirmed in a statement that “a female staffer did suffer a minor injury but continued to the event and was treated there,” the campaign gave more information. It stated that the staffer, whom it did not identify, was checked on-site by medical personnel and was cleared to go, and that it spoke with her and she stated that she was unhurt.

The “crash” featured only DeSantis’ four-vehicle motorcade on I-75 South just below East Brainerd Road, according to the police department, and a call reporting the accident was made at approximately 8:15 a.m.

“The motorcade came up on slow traffic and the lead vehicle had to brake quickly, which caused a rear-end collision involving the other vehicles,” the police statement said. “All the vehicles involved were government vehicles accompanying Governor DeSantis and his team to his scheduled event.”
