One of James Gunn’s longtime colleagues will appear as a Green Lantern in his next DC remake, according to the director. Gunn, the newly appointed co-CEO of DC Studios with film producer Peter Safran, is hard at work on his rebuilt DC Universe, which will debut in 2025 with Superman: Legacy.

In recent weeks, fans have began to discover more about Superman: Legacy, with the introductions of David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan as the film’s Clark Kent and Lois Lane providing the first hints at its super-powered ensemble. But the film’s two stars were undoubtedly just the beginning of a much larger cast headed for the DCU epic.

Nathan Fillion has been hired as a Green Lantern in James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy, according to Vanity Fair. In the film, the Firefly star will play Guy Gardner, the Green Lantern. You can see the tweet below:

While fans are best familiar with Hal Jordan and John Stewart as humans who have worn the Green Lantern ring, Garnder is a less heroic version of the hero who is expected to add some awkward comedy to the James Gunn Superman flick.

Fillion has previously worked with Gunn on DC’s The Suicide Squad (in which his character T.D.K. killed in the first few minutes) and the newly released Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

There is now a Green Lantern Max series titled Lanterns on Gunn’s new DC slate, but there is no hint that Fillion will reprise his Superman role for that project.

What Casting Fillion Means for Superman: Legacy

Nathan Fillion joins Superman: Legacy as someone James Gunn is comfortable with and who can keep up with some of the filmmaker’s creative pranks.

Some may be questioning why Guy Gardner is the first Green Lantern to appear on the big screen after the character has been away for over a decade. However, he may be the ideal rendition of the hero to reintroduce people to the Lantern Corps concept. Most of these character performers, such as Fillion, are frequently cast in minor cameo roles by Gunn.

This could suggest that Fillion’s Guy Gardner will appear in the picture for a few fun humorous parts, previewing the larger super-powered cosmos that exists in this newly-rebooted DC cosmos without detracting from David Corenswet’s Man of Steel.
