Dr. Eileen St John was born June 12, 1965, in Wichita, Kansas. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Wichita State University in 1987 before obtaining a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction in 1991.
She later got a doctorate in educational leadership from Kansas State University in 2000. Dr. St John began her career as a teacher in Wichita public schools, where she worked for 15 years. In 2002, she joined Kansas Wesleyan University, where she proceeded to become the dean of the teacher education department.
She was also the director of the graduate education program and the coordinator of the Salina USD 305 professional development school collaboration. Dr. St John was a motivated and imaginative educator who created and implemented a variety of programs and initiatives to improve the quality and diversity of teacher education.
She was also an active and influential scholar, having produced and presented numerous research papers and articles on teacher leadership, mentoring, assessment, and accreditation.
She also received various accolades and distinctions, including the Kansas Teacher of the Year Award, the Kansas Wesleyan University Faculty Excellence Award, and the Kansas Association of Colleges for Teacher Education’s Distinguished Service Award.

University President Matthew Thompson expressed tremendous sadness, calling Dr. St. John a dedicated leader who left a lasting impression on the community.
