Who was Dindo Fernando?
Dindo Fernando was born Jose Tacorda Chua Surban on November 19, 1940, in Virac, Catanduanes, Philippines. He began his career as a contract star with Sampaguita Pictures in the 1960s, as part of the Stars ’66 batch that included Gina Pareno, Rosemarie Sonora, Pepito Rodriguez, and others.
He portrayed a variety of roles, from comedy to drama, and established himself as a dependable and versatile actor. In addition, he appeared in a number of theater plays and musicals, including The King and I, The Sound of Music, and Annie.
He rose to prominence as a leading man and character actor in the 1970s and 1980s, working with some of the industry’s top filmmakers and actresses. Langis at Tubig, Gaano Kadalas ang Minsan, Magdusa Ka, and Ikaw ay Akin were among his critically acclaimed and commercially successful films.
