Dindo Fernando was born Jose Tacorda Chua Surban on November 19, 1940, in Virac, Catanduanes, Philippines. He began his career as a contract star with Sampaguita Pictures in the 1960s, as part of the Stars ’66 batch that included Gina Pareno, Rosemarie Sonora, Pepito Rodriguez, and others.
He portrayed a variety of roles, from comedy to drama, and established himself as a dependable and versatile actor. In addition, he appeared in a number of theater plays and musicals, including The King and I, The Sound of Music, and Annie.
