Bobbie Jean Carter was born in Jamestown, New York, on February 12, 1982. She was the second oldest of the Carter children, following Nick and before BJ, Leslie, Aaron, and Angel. Robert and Jane Carter divorced in 2003, and her father remarried Ginger Elrod in 2005, with whom he had a son, Kaden.
Bobbie Jean grew up in a musical household, as her brothers Nick and Aaron rose to prominence as members of the boy band Backstreet Boys and O-Town, respectively.
She was also interested in music and assisted her brothers’ early ventures as a wardrobe stylist and beauty artist. She appeared in Aaron’s “I Want Candy” and Nick’s “Do I Have to Cry for You” music videos.

Her brother, Nick, captioned an Instagram photo of him and Bobbie Jean, “I love you sis.” You were always available to me, and I will always be available to you. Bobbie Jean, rest in peace.” Angel, her sister, also posted a photo of them on Instagram with the caption, “My heart is broken.” Bobbie Jean, I miss you so much. You were the best sister a person could have. You were always making me laugh and smile. You were always available to me. “I will always love you.”
