Judd Apatow began his comedy career when he was seventeen years old. After graduating from high school in 1985, he moved to Los Angeles and enrolled in the University of Southern California’s screenwriting program.

He began organizing and hosting a series of on-campus “Comedy Night” events with headliners such as Saturday Night Live’s Kevin Nealon.

Apatow dropped out of college during his sophomore year and later moved in with comedian Adam Sandler, whom he met at the Improv. He was hired as a writer for the 1991 Grammy Awards, which Shandling hosted at the time.
He then appeared on HBO’s 15th Annual Young Comedians Special and co-created and executive produced Fox’s The Ben Stiller Show. Apatow joined HBO’s The Larry Sanders Show as a co-executive producer and director of an episode during the show’s final season, and his work on Larry Sanders earned him six Emmy nominations.
