Gabrielle Reece was born in La Jolla, California on January 6, 1970. Her mother Terry Glynn raised her in Saint Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, after her father, Robert Eduardo Reece, perished in a plane crash when she was five years old.

She was a standout athlete at Keswick Christian School in St. Petersburg, Florida. Florida State University awarded her a volleyball scholarship, and she studied communications there. She established herself as one of the top players in school history, breaking two school records for individual blocks (240) and overall blocks (747). Volleyball Career Earnings

Reece began her professional volleyball career in 1992, following her graduation from Florida State University with a communications degree. She joined the four-person women’s beach volleyball league (WPVA) and quickly rose to prominence as one of the sport’s most dominant players.

She was named Rookie of the Year in 1993 and Offensive Player of the Year in 1994 and 1995, among other honors.She was also the first female athlete to create a Nike sneaker.
