What is Wednesday about?
The eight-episode television series Wednesday will follow a slightly more mature Wednesday Addams as she manages her life and education. The series’ official synopsis was already published:
“Misadventures of Wednesday Addams while a student at Nevermore Academy, a very unusual boarding school tucked away in the heart of New England.
While navigating her new and extremely complicated relationships at Nevermore, Wednesday tries to control her developing psychic ability, stop a horrific killing spree that has terrorized the neighborhood, and solve the supernatural mystery that ensnared her parents 25 years ago.”
The new series’ creators, Miles Millar and Alfred Gough, hinted at its independence in an interview with Vanity Fair “It doesn’t try to be like the movies or the 1960s TV program. Both Tim and I thought that was extremely important.”
Additionally, Wednesday’s personality has changed a bit. She’s not a little kid anymore, even though she’s still eminently morbid and pessimistic. According to Gough, “Wednesday’s relationship with Morticia is really the relationship that kind of hangs over the season.” “How do you emerge from Morticia’s glamorous mother’s shadow?”
Wednesday Cast & Crew
A very talented cast will be on display on Wednesday. Wednesday will be portrayed by Jenna Ortega, who is well-known for her work in You, Yes Day, Scream, and The Fallout. In May 2021, Jenna announced her casting on Instagram.
“New section. I hope I can honor Wednesday Addams. “snaps twice,” she wrote, posting a picture of herself holding the show’s script. The image was later removed.
The show starts with Wednesday being expelled from school for attempting a murder and being sent to Nevermore, where she must “navigate her way through this new school, new relationships, but then also, she’s dealing with this serious investigation involving serial killers, murders, and monsters,” according to Jenna in a featurette released by Netflix on August 24.
Jenna added that she wanted to do something “different” from previous portrayals of the character. She has a more awkward social life. There is confidence there, she said, but it is more subdued. According to Wednesday’s mother, Morticia Addams, “Wednesday is technically a Latina character and that’s never been represented, so for me, any time I have the opportunity to represent my community I want that to be seen.” Gomez Addams, Wednesday’s father, has been portrayed by Luis Guzman, albeit in a supporting role. Isaac Ordonez will portray Pugsley Addams, Wednesday’s brother.

Fred Armisen, a former cast member of Saturday Night Live, will play Uncle Fester. To portray the famous character, the actor shaved his head. “The makeup and everything were really done so well,’ I lacked brows. To give me that look, prosthetics were placed over my eyebrows, Fred revealed to Vanity Fair. However, I believe that bald caps don’t always look good, so I hoped to just make it that much more convincing.
The main cast also includes Gwendoline Christie, who played Larissa Weems in Game of Thrones, Ricki Lindhome, who played Dr. Valerie Kinbott, Jamie McShane, who played Sheriff Donovan Galpin, Hunter Doohan, who played Tyler Galpin, Georgie Farmer, who played Ajax Petropolus, Moosa Mostafa, who played Euge Otinger, Emma Myers, who played Enid Sinclair, Naomi J.
Tamara Novak, Wednesday’s dorm mother, was originally to be played by Thora Birch (Hocus Pocus), but she had to leave the show in December 2021. Thora has returned to the United States to handle a personal matter and won’t be joining the production, a representative for MGM Television, the show’s producer, said in a statement to Deadline.
Wednesday and Christina Ricci’s return to The Addams Family franchise were both officially announced for March 2022. According to Deadline, Christina is not portraying a previous incarnation of Wednesday but rather a brand-new character. In an interview with Variety in August 2021, Christina gave more hints regarding her role. The Yellowjackets star said, “I was really flattered to be asked and to be asked by Tim. It’s nice to take part in this character’s newest incarnation. The creators of Wednesday are Alfred Gough and Miles Millar (Smallville).
It’s entertaining to watch and entertaining to see other people’s perspectives and what they put of themselves into something like that. In his first TV directing gig, Tim Burton (Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands, Batman Returns) is behind the camera for the show. Along with Steve Stark, Jon Glickman, Andrew Mittman, Gail Berman, and Kayla Alpert, Alfred, Miles, and Tim are executive producers.
