Rush Hour 4 is one of those sequels that’s been talked about for so long that it can be hard to remember what the actual deal with it is.
Back in October 2017, Jackie Chan revealed that he had agreed on a script and all they were waiting for was Chris Tucker to sign off on the screenplay. That happened in February 2018 as Tucker confirmed that he was also on board.
The plan was to film 2018 on “the Rush of all Rush-es”, but it won’t be a surprise to realize that never happened. We had to wait until January 2019 to get another update on the planned fourth movie.
“We’re working on a few things on the script right now, so we’re trying to get into production, but we’re working on it and trying to get it going. Jackie Chan wants to do it, I want to do it, the studio wants to do it, so we’re trying to get it together,” Tucker explained on the Winging It podcast.
Things finally seemed to be confirmed when Tucker shared a photo of the two stars holding up four fingers each, but there was a twist still to come.
Chan’s management company released a statement shortly after this Instagram post to say that, actually, the star hadn’t agreed to star in Rush Hour 4, so it seemed like we were back at square one.
Later in 2019, Tucker insisted that the pair were still talking about the fourth movie, as well as a “lot of different projects”, adding: “Hopefully we’ll get something going real soon.”
Rush Hour 4 Release date and time
The show’s filming plans currently remain in limbo. It will be impossible to give you an expected release date until the production of the show officially commences.
It is unlikely for the production to begin anytime soon.
If the film manages to begin production sometime this year, then we can expect to see Rush Hour 4 around summer 2023. Of course, this can still be delayed, considering the current status of the film.
Rush Hour 4 Plot
Jackie Chan looked to be the first one on board, saying in 2017 that “for the previous seven years, we’ve been turning down the writing, turning down the script. After this month, we’ll probably have a second draught of the screenplay, and we’ll probably start working on it next year.”
As a result, Chris Tucker expressed excitement about joining the cast of the upcoming fourth film in the franchise in early 2018, confirming its existence. It is taking place.
Rush of all Rushes, here we come. Fans went into another frenzy when Tucker said, “Jackie is ready, and we want to do this so that people don’t ever forget it,” which was quickly dispelled by Chan’s PR firm, who indicated that the film was not in production at all.
According to what we know, the film is still “in development” despite all the behind-the-scenes activity that may or may not be public knowledge.
However, it has also been speculated that a Bingbing Li-starring “Rush Hour” revival is now being developed, although there has been no news on this either.
There were also problems with Brett Ratner’s spinoff TV show that was canceled after one season, which worsened matters.
Assuming the film does come to fruition, the following section of the essay is expected to concentrate on several potential outcomes.
The appeal of the ‘Rush Hour’ genre, or any other buddy-cop film, has always been the friendship between the two characters set against one other: in this instance, the fast-talking James Carter and the no-nonsense Chief Inspector Lee, who are both cops.
We’ve been eagerly awaiting the opportunity to see their on-screen chemistry, but there’s a good possibility we’ll have to settle with just the trilogy.
As a result, many people are eager for a sequel since the threequel didn’t provide a feeling of closure that would enable them to put the series to rest.
A trilogy is a sure bet in Hollywood. Still, even with detectives Lee and Carter practically declaring their retirement plans to settle in Fiji and work as bartenders, the third picture left plenty of potential for sequels, which is sensible.
If there is a fourth, I’d want to see a melancholy, final wrap-up. As far as I know, there are no more story specifics to speak about at this time.
Rush Hour 4 Cast
We are still waiting for further announcements, including complete casting details for Rush Hour 4. However, the fourth installment of the film series would not be complete without lead actors Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker on board.
The two are the only mainstays in the series. Hence, we are expecting a lot of new faces for the sequel.
Meanwhile, Tzi Ma, who plays Ambassador Solon Han, might also return after appearing in the first and third movies.
Solon Han’s daughter Soo-Yung Han is also among the mainstay characters but was portrayed by different actresses, Julia Hsu in the first film and Zhang Jingchu in the third.
