Percy Jackson and the Olympians is a Disney+ fantasy series that follows the adventures of Percy Jackson, a teenage boy who discovers he is a demigod and the son of Poseidon, the Greek god of the sea.

The show is based on Rick Riordan’s popular books, with the first season adapting the first book, The Lightning Thief, published in 2024.

The show has garnered great feedback from reviewers and fans, and it has been a success on the streaming platform. But, will there be a second season? And, if so, what might we anticipate from it? Here’s what we know so far about Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2.

Percy Jackson Season 2 Release Date

As of February 2024, Disney+ had not officially renewed Percy Jackson and the Olympians for a second season. However, there are some positive signals that the show will continue.

According to Variety, a writers’ room for season 2 has been assembled, and co-showrunners Jon Steinberg and Dan Shotz have stated that they are doing good work and remain positive about the series’ future.

Steinberg also disclosed that they had already begun writing scripts for season 2, even before Disney+ gave them the formal green light. He said, “There is an awareness on everyone’s part that the demand for the show seems to suggest we should probably not stop making it.”

If the show is renewed, it will most likely adhere to the same production schedule as the first season, which took approximately a year to film and edit. The first season began filming in January 2023, concluded in December 2023, and will air on Disney+ in December 2024. Assuming a similar timeframe, Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2 should come on Disney+ in late 2025 or early 2026.

Percy Jackson Season 2  Plot

The plot for Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2 will be based on the second novel in the series, The Sea of Monsters.

The book follows Percy and his friends as they embark on two separate quests: one to find the Golden Fleece, a magical item that can heal Thalia’s Tree, which has been poisoned by Luke and his allies, and another to locate Grover, who has been kidnapped by a Cyclops named Polyphemus, who wishes to marry him.

Along the voyage, they will encounter numerous hazards and obstacles, like the Sirens, Hydra, Sea of Monsters, and Colchis Bull. They will also learn more about their history, destiny, and link to the prophecy that predicts the fate of the globe.

The second season will delve into some of the book’s themes and concepts, including family, friendship, loyalty, courage, and identity. The season will follow Percy and his companions’ development as heroes as they face personal problems, conflicts, and external threats.

The season will also dig deeper into global mythology and history, introducing new gods, monsters, and locales including Circe’s Island, the Bermuda Triangle, and the Island of the Cyclopes. The season will also provide the groundwork for the next novel in the series, The Titan’s Curse, which will feature new characters and story twists, including the Hunters of Artemis, the General, and the Oracle of Delphi.
