Dedicated fans want every item relating to the series, movies, or anime they watch, the bands they listen to, or the celebrities they adore. There are many things that would make any fan happy, and among them, some of the most iconic are the Pop Figures from Funko. Any fan wants to have these collectibles on a shelf somewhere.
They’re all the more valuable because many are limited editions or have additional features and designs, making them incredibly rare. Here are some of the rarest and most interesting figurines on which only a few lucky collectors got their hands.
Disney characters
Over its long history, Disney has presented its fandom with countless characters, including new ones and renditions of well-known classics. Many of them are forever a part of pop culture, and people of all ages are staunch fans. Therefore, it’s no surprise that one of the rarest figurines in the world is a Mickey Mouse, particularly a metallic silver variant.
First released in 2011 for the San Diego Comic-Con, it was a rarity even when launched, being one for every 500 pieces. The current estimated value exceeds $1,000.
Another beloved Disney character with a rare Funko vinyl is Dumbo. However, it’s not just any figurine, but the one featuring the cute baby elephant covered in clown paint. If you want to add it to your collection, you must be ready to pay roughly $6,400, as there were only forty-eight pieces of this Dumbo ever released.
Game of Thrones
Few series were as successful as Game of Thrones, and even fewer achieved its global phenomenon status. Despite its controversial finale that was condemned by many as unrealistic, many fans remain dedicated to the core of the story. Naturally, multiple Funko figures depicting the characters were released over the years. Given the large cast, the costume variety, and the numerous plots, there are typically several Funko vinyls of a single character.
Some of the rarest are Daenerys and Drogo on their wedding day, with the two figures coming together in a set. Ygritte, a crowned Renly, and a scar-faced Tyrion are among the most desirable pieces in your collection. If you’re a fan of dragons and have been looking to get them, you’ve probably discovered that they’re not easy to come by.
There’s a triple pack featuring all three, so you can get Drogon, Rhaegal, and Viserion in a single package. However, you must be prepared to pay up to $200. Other, even rarer versions feature Daenerys holding one of her children or a dragon egg. Perhaps the most expensive Game of Thrones Funko to date is one referencing one of the most monumental parts of the story. A headless Ned Stark was sold in 2017 for $1,400.
However, if that’s too dark for you, you can settle on a White Walker that glows in the dark.
Superheroes and supervillains
Superhero movies have become increasingly popular over the past few years, attracting large crowds of fans. It’s not just the heroes themselves that are popular, as the villains also get quite a lot of love from fans.
So, it’s no surprise that some of the rarest Funko come from this category. One of them is an all-silver Harley Quinn, best known as Joker’s henchwoman. However, the modern character iterations have also made Harleen Quinzel more complex and more of an antihero than a straight-up villain.
Another figure released in limited edition is a 2010 Batman Pop in metallic blue. However, if you want this aesthetically-pleasing figure on your shelf, you must be ready to pay up to $800, which is less than others but still a considerable price. However, if you’re a superfan, you know it’s worth the price.
Freddy Funko
As the brand’s official mascot, Freddy Funko vinyls are generally among the most exclusive. Typically, these figurines are sold at conventions and only released in limited quantities, so you must be fast to get one. Among the rarest are the ones depicting Freddy as other popular characters. The Funko showing him as Venom and the Joker have an estimated value of $19,000 and $13,000, respectively.
If you’re looking for something more affordable, Freddy dressed up as Star Wars fan favorite Boba Fett in 2014. The resale price is currently around $6,000.
And because we’ve already discussed the craze surrounding Game of Thrones, it’s important to mention that Freddy as Jaime Lannister is one of the most expensive Funko. This blood-splattered character donning armor and holding a sword can be yours for about $11,700.
The Royals
The British royal family differs from the rest of this list by being real individuals and not fictional characters. Yet, there are many that are fans of the House of Windsor and who gathered to get the figures as soon as they were released.
Queen Elizabeth II is depicted near one of her beloved corgis, and several different Funko figures show Princess Diana. King Charles, Prince William, and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are some of the other figurines featuring notable family members.
For those that weren’t in the Royal family before, watching The Crown may have changed that.
Miscellaneous characters
Some stories don’t have several easily-recognizable characters. Yet, one or two of them will be so iconic that everyone will recognize them, even without any previous knowledge of the story.
One such character is Cthulhu, the ancient entity worshiped by cultists in the Lovecraftian mythos. This well-known horror character doesn’t look quite as scary in its miniature form, yet it remains a highly coveted figure wanted by many collectors.
Laura Palmer, the Twin Peak character whose murder is the catalyst for the entire show, also got a Funko that only show fans would love, as it depicts her tied up and wrapped in plastic. For the fans of Alien: Covenant, there’s another rendition of a creepy Funko they can add to their collectibles.
A face-hugger attacked a Funko of Chris Oram before meeting his end. Much like in the case of Cthulhu, the scare factor is somehow reduced by the disproportionate sizes.
When you want to improve your fandom memorabilia, few items are as cool and eclectic as Funko figures. And since fans love them so much, it’s natural that some of the most interesting will also be rarer and pricier.
