Winter is over, and now it’s time for House of the Dragon. After the disappointing end of Game of Thrones, HBO’s new prequel gives fans hope for the future (or the past). House of the Dragon takes place 172 years before the Mad King dies and Daenerys Targaryen is born. This is the first thing the prequel tells us.
Even though many people who watch House of the Dragon also watch Game of Thrones, they might not remember everything, like who the Mad King is. Some new viewers of House of the Dragon may not have even seen Game of Thrones, which isn’t a problem when it comes to watching the prequel series. So, who is the Mad King, and what does he have to do with the new show?
The Events Of “Game Of Thrones” Began With The Death Of The Mad King.
The story of Game of Thrones started with the death of the Mad King, who went crazy because of generations of incest. After he died, the throne was open for someone else to take over. Step forward Robert Baratheon. Ned Stark put his hand on the king’s shoulder, and the fight that followed over who should sit on the Iron Throne started Game of Thrones.
So, knowing that the Mad King died 172 years after the events in House of the Dragon gives us an idea of where we are in the Targaryen bloodline. Not only that, but it gives us hints about what might happen and what we can expect from the rest of House of the Dragon. Many of us already knew that it was about the House Targaryen, but now we know that it will probably end with the death of the Mad King.
Who Is Mad King’s Father In “Game Of Thrones”?
King Aerys Targaryen, also known as “The Mad King,” was her father. When Ser Jaime Lannister killed him, it was the end of the Targaryen dynasty, which had ruled the Iron Throne for a long time. Daenerys has the same name as one of King Jaehaerys’s daughters, and her brother Viserys was named after King Viserys.
Why Do Targaryens Keep Getting Married?
Like their ancestors in the Valyrian Freehold, the members of House Targaryen often married their brothers and sisters to keep their bloodline pure, so they could control dragons and keep their Valyrian heritage.
The Mad King, Daenerys Targaryen’s Father, Was The Sixteenth Ruler Of The Iron Throne From House Targaryen.
King Aerys II Targaryen, often known as the Mad King and King Scab, was the last Targaryen to sit on the Iron Throne before the “Game of Thrones” began. After he succumbed to his insanity, his reputation as a benevolent and adored monarch disappeared. In Game of Thrones, Danaerys’ eventual demise was intended to mirror that of her father; nevertheless, fans and critics felt there was insufficient character development to explain her attitude change.
Aerys fought courageously for his father, Aegon V Targaryen, and earned the Iron Throne. However, as time went on, his insanity caused him to develop paranoia regarding his hand to the king, Tywin Lannister, and his family. To spite Tywin, the “Mad King” knighted Jaime Lannister. Aerys II’s homicidal sprees and delusions eventually caught up with him.
The Stark, Tully, and Baratheon families allied against House Targaryen, while Tywin Lannister led an army to King’s Landing under the false premise of protecting the capital. When the Mad King ordered Ser Jaime Lannister to fetch him Tywin’s head, Jaime stabbed him in the back and severed his neck to end his rule.
