The new trailer for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever shows a lot about the upcoming MCU sequel, including how likely it is that Shuri will be the next Black Panther. Since Chadwick Boseman’s death in 2020, one of the most talked-about things about future Black Panther movies and TV shows in the MCU has been who will play the title character.
Some people wanted to find a new actor to play Black Panther so that the character’s legacy would live on. However, Marvel Studios and director Ryan Coogler chose not to do this out of respect for Boseman and how he played T’Challa.
When the Black Panther sequel was first announced, Coogler said that the movie would be more about the fictional country of Wakanda as a whole than about the character of Black Panther. But as the date for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’s release has come closer, it has become clear that the movie will show T’Challa’s role as Black Panther being taken over by someone else.
Even though the movie will probably still be more about the supporting characters of Wakanda, it makes sense for Marvel to have someone take on the role of Black Panther for the future of the MCU.
One of the most popular fan theories about who the next Black Panther will be is that Shuri will be the one. The latest trailer for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever almost confirms this theory. In the last shot of the trailer, the new Black Panther is wearing an eye-catching gold and black suit that looks a lot like Killmonger’s outfit from the first movie.
But its body is much more feminine, which seems to prove that Shuri will be the next Black Panther. “Show them who we are,” is a line from Angela Basset’s Queen Ramonda that goes with the shot. This conversation can be seen in the context of the second movie, which is about Wakanda and wants to show the world what the country stands for.
But it can be used to force Shuri to show the world that the Black Panther will live on through T’Challa, Ramonda, and T’Chaka’s bloodlines.
Also, the new poster for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever puts Shuri front and center, with the new Black Panther suit from the trailer looming behind her, again suggesting that she will take over the mantle.
The white decorations around the eyes and on the forehead of the suit are the same ones that were on Shuri’s face on her original Black Panther character poster.
Why It Makes Sense For Wakanda For Shuri To Be The New Black Panther
The main reason why it makes sense for Shuri to stay as the Black Panther in the MCU is that she took over from her brother as the Black Panther in the comics during Marvel’s Dark Reign saga. So, many fans thought that the same thing would happen in the movies, with Shuri taking over from T’Challa in the end.
But since T’Challa didn’t show up until Captain America: Civil War in 2016, it was expected that Shuri wouldn’t take over for a while, so that her brother could grow up like Captain America and Iron Man. Chadwick Boseman died too soon, so it’s time for Shuri to take over as Black Panther in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. This is both true to the comics and a way to keep Boseman and T’Challa’s legacy going.
