Beetlejuice 2 is one of Hollywood’s most anticipated sequels. Beetlejuice was a cult hit that mixed horror, comedy, and fantasy uniquely and amusingly.

Michael Keaton played the titular ghost, a cheeky and vulgar spirit that assists a recently deceased couple (Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis) in haunting their previous home and scaring away the new owners (Catherine O’Hara and Jeffrey Jones) and their goth daughter Lydia (Winona Ryder).

Tim Burton directed the film and also co-produced and co-wrote the script. Fans have been anticipating a sequel for more than three decades, and there have been numerous rumors and false starts along the way.

Beetlejuice 2 Cast

Some of the original cast members will return, as will some new faces, in the film. So far, the following actors have been confirmed:

  • Michael Keaton as Betelgeuse (pronounced “Beetlejuice”), the eccentric and obnoxious ghost who offers his services as a “bio-exorcist” to the dead and the living.
  • Winona Ryder as Lydia Deetz, the former goth teenager who befriended Beetlejuice and helped him escape from the afterlife. She is now a grown woman and a successful photographer.
  • Catherine O’Hara as Delia Deetz, Lydia’s stepmother, and a self-proclaimed artist. She is still married to Charles Deetz, Lydia’s father and a real estate developer.
  • Jenna Ortega is Lydia Deetz’s daughter, a rebellious and adventurous girl who inherits her mother’s fascination with the supernatural.
  • Monica Bellucci is Betelgeuse’s wife, a mysterious and seductive woman who lives in the netherworld with him.
  • Willem Dafoe is the Sandworm King, the ruler of the giant striped worms that inhabit the desert-like landscape of the afterlife.
  • Justin Theroux and Willem Dafoe have also been cast in undisclosed roles.

Beetlejuice 2 Plot

The narrative of Beetlejuice 2 is yet unknown, although the filmmakers and cast have disclosed some facts. The picture will, according to Burton, be a continuation of the original plot, but with a different tone and style.

“It’s not a remake, it’s not a reboot, it’s a sequel,” he explained. It’s not the same as Beetlejuice, but it’s still Beetlejuice. It’s darker, stranger, and more twisted, but it’s also more entertaining.” Keaton, who won a Golden Globe for his portrayal of Beetlejuice, expressed excitement in reprising his role and exploring the character’s progression. “I love Beetlejuice,” he said.

He’s one of my all-time favorite characters. He’s so unpredictable, bombastic, and insane. He’s evolved a lot over the years, but he’s still Beetlejuice. He’s still attempting to make a deal, have some fun, and cause some problems. He’s still the most numerous ghost.”

Beetlejuice 2 Release Date

Ryder, who won great acclaim for her performance as Lydia, expressed her excitement to reunite with Burton and Keaton and return to the world of Beetlejuice. “I have such fond memories of making the first film,” she remarked.

It was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for me. I was very young, and it was my first major motion picture. Tim and Michael were incredibly nice, supportive, and encouraging. They taught me a lot. I’m eternally grateful to them. And I’m excited to be back with them and see what they have in store for Lydia and Beetlejuice.”

Ortega, who plays Lydia’s daughter, expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to work with such outstanding and iconic actors. “I’m a huge fan of the original Beetlejuice,” she explained. It’s one of my all-time favorite films. I grew up admiring and watching it.

It’s a comedy, horror, and fantasy masterpiece. I can’t believe I’m a part of it. I’m nervous, excited, and humbled. I can’t wait to meet everyone, learn from them, and have a good time with them.” Bellucci, who portrays Betelgeuse’s wife, expressed interest in the part and the character’s connection with Beetlejuice. “She’s a very interesting character,” she remarked.

She is secretive, powerful, and sensual. She’s known Beetlejuice for a long time and knows him better than anyone else. She adores him, but she also tests him. She is his companion, but she is also his adversary. She is his equal, but also his polar opposite. She’s everything to him, yet she’s also nothing to him. She, like him, is a contradiction.”

Dafoe, who plays the Sandworm King, expressed interest in the species and its importance in the plot. “The Sandworm King is a very important character,” he remarked.

He is the afterlife’s ruler, the balance’s custodian, and the keeper of secrets. He’s very old, very wise, and quite powerful. He’s also extremely lonely, bored, and angry. He has a long history with beetle juice, dating back to the dawn of time. He harbors a vendetta against him, which will be resolved in this film.”

Beetlejuice 2 Trailer

The trailer for Beetlejuice 2 has yet to be produced; however, it is slated to be released in early 2024. The trailer will very certainly include some of the original film’s iconic aspects, such as the striped suit, the snake transformation, the banana boat song, and the shrunken head.
