Who Was David Crosby?
David Van Cortlandt Crosby was an American singer, guitarist, and songwriter. He was born on August 14, 1941, and died on January 19, 2023. He started both the Byrds and Crosby, Stills, and Nash, and he also had a solo career.
Crosby became a member of the Byrds in 1964. They had their first number-one hit with a cover of “Mr. Tambourine Man” by Bob Dylan in 1965. Crosby was on the Byrds’ first five albums, and he produced their 1973 album with the original band members.
In 1968, he got together with Stephen Stills and Graham Nash to form Crosby, Stills & Nash (CSN). CSN won the Grammy Award for Best New Artist of 1969 after the release of their first album.
Their second show with him was at Woodstock. Crosby & Nash, which was meant to be a group where people could work together freely, made three gold albums in the 1970s, and the core trio of CSN stayed together from 1976 until 2016.
Crosby was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice, once for his work with the Byrds and again for his work with CSN. Rolling Stone’s list of “The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time” includes three albums he worked on with the Byrds and two with the CSN (Y).
