For decades, Nickelodeon has been the go-to spot for kids’ entertainment, starting from the 1990s. From beloved cartoons known as “Nicktoons” to more grown-up content on Nick At Nite, Nickelodeon has been a staple in the lives of many.
It’s been particularly famous among teens for its Teen Nick series, featuring hits like Zoey 101, Drake & Josh, iCarly, Victorious, and The Amanda Bynes Show, all of which were created by Dan Schneider. However, recent events have taken a darker turn with Investigation Discovery’s docuseries Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV.
This documentary sheds light on allegations against Schneider made by former Nickelodeon writers, actors, and crew members. In response to these revelations, Schneider has taken legal action, filing a lawsuit against the producers of Quiet on Set.
Why Did Dan Schneider File Defamation Lawsuit Against ‘Quiet On Set’ Producers?
Nickelodeon severed its connection with Schneider after accusations of his misbehavior arose in 2018. Schneider was accused by ex-coworkers and cast members of acting aggressively, se*ually harassing women, and having a foot fetish with young actresses. Most of the assertions have been refuted by Schneider.

Former iCarly performer Jennette McCurdy accused Schneider of inappropriate behavior on set in her memoir, I’m Glad My Mom Died, but she merely called him “The Creator.”
She didn’t call the producer by name, but she claimed he pushed her to wear a bikini for an iCarly episode and to drink alcohol when she was younger. She also talked about how he made fun of her during the first kiss scene with her character Sam.
Schneider brought a defamation action against the Quiet on Set producers on May 1, 2024. Schneider’s legal team labeled the documentary series a “hit job” against him, according to court documents that news outlets were able to obtain.
The documents stated, “While it is indisputable that two bona fide child se*ual abusers worked on Nickelodeon shows, it is likewise indisputable that Schneider had no knowledge of their abuse, was not complicit in the abuse, condemned the abuse once it was discovered and, critically, was not a child se*ual abuser himself.”
It further stated, “But for the sake of clickbait, ratings, and views — or put differently, money — Defendants have destroyed Schneider’s reputation and legacy through the false statements and implications that Schneider is exactly that.”
