Jesus Chavez is another name for Fernando. He was the youngest of the six people who were shot and killed at the Chesapeake Walmart Supercenter.
Officials from the City of Chesapeake and the Chesapeake Police Department have found the youngest victim of the mass shooting at the Walmart Supercenter in Chesapeake on Tuesday night. Due to his age, they had kept his name and photo from the public before.
We now know that Fernando Chavez-Barron, 16, died. Joshua Trejo-Alvarado, who has known Fernando since they were kids, said that he was funny, smart, nice, outgoing, an honours student, and a soccer fan.
Joshua said, “I knew [the shooting] happened, but I never thought it would be my friend.”
Lorenzo Gamble, Brian Pendleton, Kellie Pyle, Randy Blevins, and Tyneka Johnson were the other five people who died. This was confirmed by officials. Police say that the shooting also injured several other people.
Fernando was the youngest of the people who were hurt.
“He Was Just Beginning [there].””The first check he got and everything,” Joshua explained.
Joshua said that he wished everything was a dream. Joshua said that he and Fernando were planning to see each other over Thanksgiving break. Joshua also said that Fernando was happy to get the job at Walmart and that the two of them had plans for next year.
Joshua said, “We were supposed to go work somewhere else so that we could be closer and all that.”
Instead, Joshua is sad about the death of his friend and is going to a prayer vigil for him on Thursday night. At memorials on Sam’s Circle, people from all over the Hampton Roads area pay their respects to the victims and their families.
“I want them to know that they made a difference, that they’re remembered, and that when the community hurts and things like this happen, we all hurt,” said Maria Pulley, who hung ribbons on crosses in memory of the people who died.
Just a few feet away from that memorial, there is a tree with teddy bears, flowers, and balloons all around it, along with a poster that says “Forever in My Heart, Little Brother” in Spanish. a loved brother, son, friend, and cousin.
Josh said, “I just miss Fernando.”
The city of Chesapeake will hold a candlelight vigil on Monday for the people who died in the Walmart shooting. It will happen at 6 p.m. in Chesapeake City Park.
