CBS’s “48 Hours” is one of the longest-running investigative journalism shows on TV right now, and for good reason. It brings us real-life cases, keeps us up to date on them, and always takes into account how people act when they commit crimes.

Its story about the murder of Jerry Michael William, called “Cold-Blooded Killer,” was the same. The case of Jerry Michael Williams is one of the scariest and most interesting cases ever. It has a plot that sounds like a great movie. There is a lot you need to know about, like cheating, insurance fraud, kidnapping, and murder itself, so we’re here to tell you everything.

Some About Jerry Michael Williams?

Jerry Michael Williams, who preferred to be called Mike, lived in a double-wide trailer with his older brother Nick in Bradfordville, Florida. Being the son of a Greyhound bus driver and a daycare worker, he knew how important money and values were, so he always worked hard in school.

He was in the Key Club and played football. He was also president of the student council. At age 15, he started duck hunting as a hobby and got to know Denise Merrell, who was also in school.

After getting his degree in political science and urban planning from Florida State University, he got a job as a property appraiser at the Ketcham Appraisal Group. In 1994, he married his high school sweetheart, Denise, and started living the life he had always wanted.

He was a good man who took care of his family, and when his daughter was born in 1999, he stepped up to be a great father as well.

How Did Jerry Michael Williams Pass Away?

Mike left his home in Tallahassee, Florida, on December 16, 2000, early in the morning with his boat in tow to go duck hunting. He never came back from it, though. He was last seen in Lake Seminole, a big lake west of the city.

Since his boat was found abandoned on the lake, people thought that he had fallen off of it and drowned and that alligators had eaten his body. There were no signs of him, but six months later, waders and a jacket with his hunting license were found. At that point, he was considered legally dead.

Mike’s body was found buried in mud near Carr Lake years after he died. His death was ruled to have been caused by murder. It was found that he had been killed by a bullet to the head. Mike’s mother, Cheryl, never believed the alligator theory.

For years, she tried to get the governors and state agents to look into her son’s case again, but to no avail. So, when, after 17 years, she finally found out the truth, it was a relief for her. Even though she was still very sad, she at least knew what had happened to her son.

Who Killed Jerry Michael Williams?

Mike’s death was caused by his wife, Denise, and his best friend, Brian Winchester. Since 1997, they had been having an affair. Instead of getting a divorce, Denise wanted to get rid of Mike for good so she wouldn’t have to share custody of their daughter with him.

Just a few days before he was killed or went missing, Denise took out a large life insurance policy on him. Brian, who worked as an insurance agent, helped her with the process.

After Mike’s death was legally declared, based on the findings and a court petition by his wife, Denise got the $1.75 million from Mike’s three life insurance policies and married Brian.

Years later, they had problems in their marriage, and in 2016, Brian was arrested for allegedly kidnapping Denise, who was now getting a divorce from him. He was sentenced to 20 years in prison for that crime the day before Mike’s body was found.

In 2019, he testified against Denise in exchange for full immunity in the case. He said that they had been cheating on each other, that they had planned to fake his death, and that he had shot Mike at Denise’s request.

Denise was charged with first-degree murder, plotting to kill, and being an accomplice after the fact. She was given a sentence of life plus 30 years in prison. (Image courtesy of CBS / 48 Hours.
