What Does POV (Point Of View) Mean On Tiktok? Explained Here!

what does pov mean on tiktok

Pov is a common term on Tiktok, and if you’ve used the app for any length of time, you’ve probably seen it at some point. Here’s everything you need to know about what it means and when to use it.

Tiktok is probably the most popular social media platform right now. It has millions of active users who are always talking to each other, and it has a huge amount of content.

As with any social media platform, Tiktok has developed its own set of unique words over time, from time-saving acronyms to words whose meanings have changed completely because of the app.

If you’ve been on your For You page for a while, you’ve probably seen the word “pov” somewhere, either in the description of an original video or in the comments.

Tiktok seems to have made the word more popular, but it has also spread to other social media sites. So, what does it mean in real life?

What Does POV (Point Of View) Mean On Tiktok?

Since Tiktok is a video app, it’s easy to use “pov” style film shooting to make clips for it. All you have to do is take pictures from the angle you’re talking about.

One example of this that has gone viral is @pgally’s “pov: You’re working on a class project with the popular girl.” The user shoots the video from the point of view of the person who is paired up with the popular girl, while she acts like a mean popular girl for the camera.

Or, here’s another very literal “pov, you’re a bully” example from @sissybaelol on TikTok.

And, of course, Bustle did a great POV Tiktok all by herself.

But as “point of view” videos have become more popular, many users have forgotten what they mean. Now, the phrase is usually used before any prompt that asks a user to act out a scene. Instead of shooting the Tiktok from the “pov” they’re describing, they’ll often show themselves acting out the prompt for the camera.

For example, if you walked in on your sister breaking up with her boyfriend, a POV would usually show your sister. This Tiktok, on the other hand, shows the people who walked in on her.

Once you know that “pov” means “point of view,” it’s easy to figure out what a “pov” video is trying to say, even when it’s used wrong. And now that you know this, your point of view has changed for good.
