For nearly a decade, disinformation campaigns on the internet have relied on the unfounded QAnon conspiracy theory, which accuses celebrities of horrific child abuse. Despite the lack of evidence, conspiracy theories famously supporting and drawing the attention of former President Donald Trump have saturated online debates.

This type of bizarre and dangerous claim has declined in recent years, but some, like the one that went viral on Twitter this week, continue to surface.

For more than a decade, QAnon conspiracy theories have spread, sometimes with false charges linking public figures to child abuse situations. One of the possibilities advanced is that a group of well-known Satanic pedophiles torture and kill children for their adrenochrome.

For quite some time, Hillary Clinton, the former secretary of state, has been linked to the conspiracy theory that Democrats are engaging in a clandestine child abuse ring, which gave rise to the widely debunked “Pizzagate” conspiracy theory in 2016.

In a similar vein, social media has drawn other celebrities’ names into similar theories following their deaths. For example, before to their untimely deaths, Paul Walker, Anne Heche, and Anthony Bourdain were all falsely claimed to have been investigating child s*x rings.

On Twitter, a user named @davenwworls_2 made a comment about this that quickly went viral. Here is what he said:

It’s been almost 40 hours since this obviously fake news report about Tom Hanks getting “arrested” for child p*** went viral, and it’s received over 20,000 likes. Twitter has transformed into Facebook.
