King Von, a young Chicago rapper, was shot and died in a fight outside an Atlanta nightclub early on November 6th. He was 26.

Empire’s creator, Ghazi Shami, posted a message on Instagram confirming Von’s passing, saying, “I woke up to some very horrible news this morning — my heart is heavy. Another young rising star has gone too soon. I pray for your family Lil bro. May God rest your soul.  We were only starting out. There must be a better solution. Too much pointless violence is present. This needs to end. God be with us.

The statement from Empire read: “We are devastated by the untimely passing of King Von. He was a loving parent and community member who had a remarkable gift that had only begun to touch the surface of his limitless potential. As a young man, Von faced tremendously difficult challenges, yet he never lost sight of what it meant to give back to and better his neighborhood, O’Block. We count ourselves fortunate to have seen his development and evolution, but we also know that he has so much more to offer the world. The Empire family extends its sympathies to the player’s family, friends, teammates, and supporters during this extremely trying time.

According to the Atlanta Police Department, the shooting was fired shortly after an argument between two groups of males broke out outside of a hookah establishment at around 3:20 a.m. When the group approached, further shots were fired. At the time, two off-duty police officers were working security at the bar; one of them, along with an APD officer who was on duty and on patrol nearby, challenged the group. Three of the incident’s protagonists died as a result of gunshot wounds, while three more are receiving medical attention at nearby hospitals.
