According to news outlets, a California man who was mauled by his pit dogs passed away from “multiple traumatic injuries.”

According to the County of Los Angeles Medical Examiner’s report Dominic Anthony Cooper, a pit bull breeder, died as a result of an “accident” from “multiple traumatic injuries,” which were “inflicted by dogs.”

However according to the medical examiner’s report, there was “no definitive rapidly fatal injury was identified, such as injury to any major vessels or internal organs,” and his death was “likely multifactorial.”

“Blood loss,” “physical exhaustion from the attack,” and “the possibility of hypothermia” are among the factors contributing to his death. The report clarified that “the manner of death is an accident” based on the “history, circumstances, and autopsy, as the medical examiner currently knows them,” and stated that “this cannot be concluded with certainty.”

According to the medical examiner’s report, the 35-year-old male sustained “multiple penetrating and traumatic injuries,” including “wounds involving the upper and lower extremities.”

Cooper had “many abrasions” that ranged in size from “1/4 to 3/4 inch.” His body was covered in “round, irregular, linear” abrasions, most prominently in his “extremities and buttock,” with “some resembling bite marks.”

On February 16, Cooper’s body was initially found in a kennel in his Compton, California, backyard. The medical examiner’s report states that there were 13 pit bulls in total—five adult dogs and eight puppies—in the backyard.

According to a previous report, CCTV footage from February 15 at around 7:05 p.m. local time shows Cooper cleaning his backyard and feeding the dogs before he was attacked.

The adult dogs next to the wire kennel attacked him in about six minutes. When his girlfriend found him the following morning, she contacted the police.

Around 8:10 a.m. that morning, Cooper was pronounced dead at the site following the arrival of the Los Angeles County Fire Department, Animal Control, and Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department. After the deadly attack, Cooper’s father, John, set up a GoFundMe account for his three kids.
