On Monday in Kay County, there was a tragic accident resulting in one person’s death and two others being injured.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported that at around 8:18 a.m. on southbound I-35 near Tonkawa, a vehicle carrying three juveniles and one 18-year-old male collided with three pedestrians. Fortunately, none of the vehicle occupants were harmed.

Sadly, the Tonkawa Fire Department pronounced one of the pedestrians, 19-year-old Jacob Matuszczak, dead at the scene. Another pedestrian was taken to a hospital in Wichita, Kansas, in critical condition, while the third pedestrian was also transported there but was treated and released.

The OHP is still looking into the cause of the crash.
