On Monday, June 19, 2023, Donnie received his initial legal ancestor recognition. His Sunday broadcast, “The American Songbook,” was consistently rated as one of the most popular and well-attended. We must inform you that Donnie McKethan has died away, and we do so with great sadness. We send our sympathies to Donnie’s loved ones.

Donnie Albert W. McKethan, a native of Washington, DC, passed away at his home on June 19, 2023. Donnie and Melissa (Scrivens) McKethan were Donnie’s parents.
His devoted son Conrad Montgomery McKethan, brother-in-law Dr. Reverend Gerald H. Hesson (Colleen), stepson Dane DeSouza (Veleska), grandchildren Chelsie and Miles, great-granddaughter Aria, cousin Vera Tropeo, a large number of friends, and many ardent listeners of his radio show “The American Song Book” on WPFW-FM are left to carry on his loving legacy.
Donnie kept up his image as a great gentleman for over 20 years. He worked at WPFW as a jazz programmer. His family, friends, and the many listeners whose lives he impacted would like to hear from the employees and management at WPFW as they offer their condolences. On Tuesday, July 4, WPFW will honor Donnie McKethan with a program titled “Reshaping the American Songbook” from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The service will be conducted on June 29, 2023, at the National United Methodist Church, Metropolitan Campus, 3401 Nebraska Avenue NW, Washington, DC 20016. Visitation will be held from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Service is available from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Visit nationalchurch.org and look for the worship livestream.
