The process of retrieving passengers’ bags and belongings from the plane has begun. According to Majaliwa, “the process of identifying the dead and notifying the families has begun by a team of doctors and security agencies.”
On Sunday night, the airline issued a revised statement in which it confirmed the death toll and revised the number of survivors down to 24. Local authorities and the carrier had previously reported that 26 of the 43 passengers had been saved.
Precision Air wishes to express its deepest condolences to the loved ones of the passengers and crew members who lost their lives in this tragic accident. The airline promised to do whatever it could to help the families through the crisis.
It was also stated that “next of kin will not be notified until the names of passengers and crew on board the aircraft have been released.”
The plane, carrying 41 people (39 passengers and 4 crew members), crashed into Lake Victoria as it was attempting to land in Bukoba, Tanzania, after taking off from Dar es Salaam, the commercial capital of Tanzania.
Social media users have shared footage of the aircraft submerged in Lake Victoria, with rescuers coordinating their efforts from boats nearby.

On Sunday in Dar es Salaam, Patrick Mwanri, CEO of Precision Air, looked visibly upset while speaking to reporters.
Mwanri said the plane took off around 6 a.m. local time and was scheduled to arrive in the lakeside town of Bukoba in the country’s northwest at 8:30 a.m., but his voice cracked and he had to pause to wipe away tears.
On the other hand, “at 8.53 a.m. our Operations Control Center got a report that that aircraft had not arrived,” he said on live TV. The runway for this airport begins next to Africa’s largest freshwater lake, Lake Victoria, and it is thought that the crash occurred on the final approach.
There had been heavy rain and high winds in the area, so local authorities speculated that this could have contributed to the accident.
To facilitate communication with passengers’ loved ones, the regional airline has set up a Crisis Management Center and information areas in Bukoba and Dar es Salaam.
