Takeoff Early Life: Where Did He Raise?
Takeoff, the whose given name is Kirshnik Khari Ball, was born on June 18, 1994, in the Atlanta suburb of Lawrenceville, Georgia.
His mother raised him and his two cousins, Quavious Keyate Marshall and Kiari Kendrell Cephus. The lads’ early musical tastes were shaped by the rap sounds of Gucci Mane, Outkast, and Lil Wayne.
Takeoff Career
Takeoff’s uncle Quavious (aka Quavo) and Takeoff’s cousin Kiari (aka Offset) created the hip-hop group Migos in 2008. The group’s original moniker was “The Polo Club.” After debuting in 2011 with a mixtape titled “Juug Season,” the trio returned in 2012 with another mixtape titled “No Label.”
Success for Migos
Migos’ breakout came in 2013 with the release of the single “Versace.” It reached number 99 on the Billboard Hot 100 after being remixed by Canadian rapper Drake, and number 31 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.
Migos later included the song on their mixtape “Y.R.N.,” where it became a hit. The band followed up the success of their second mixtape with “No Label 2,” which was downloaded over 100,000 times in its first week.
In 2014, their single “Fright Night” reached number 69 on the Billboard Hot 100, proving they were still on the rise. Migos’ first full-length studio album, “Yung Rich Nation,” was released in 2015. The album peaked at #3 on the Top Rap Albums chart and produced the smash hit “One Time,” which featured appearances from Young Thug and Chris Brown.
The final position it reached on the Billboard 200 was number 17. In September 2015, Migos dropped a new mixtape titled “Back to the Bando.” The first single “Look at My Dab” became an international hit as it spread the dancing craze known as “dabbing” over the world. For their 2015 album “Streets on Lock 4”, Migos linked up with Rich the Kid.
The Migos Have Continued Their Remarkable Run of Success
The first song off of Migos’s 2016 album “Culture,” “Bad and Boujee,” also featured Lil Uzi Vert and went to #1. The RIAA eventually certified the song four times platinum.
Sadly, Takeoff was too preoccupied to be included in the tune or receive credit for his contributions. In the end, “Culture” was released in January of 2017, where it quickly rose to the top of the Billboard 200 chart and quickly sold over 131,000 album equivalents in its first week. It was certified platinum that July.
In late April 2017, Migos dropped “MotorSport,” the first song from its upcoming third studio album, “Culture II.” The song featuring the Trinidadian-American rap duo Nicki Minaj and Cardi B peaked at number six on the Billboard Hot 100. “Stir Fry,” their second single, reached the eighth spot.
In January 2018, Migos released “Culture II,” which became their second album to debut at number one on the Billboard 200, selling 199,000 album-equivalent units in its first week of release. The 2020 publication of “Culture III” was postponed because of the COVID epidemic.

Trouble at Georgia Southern University
To kick off the spring concert season at Georgia Southern University in April of 2015, the group Migos was slated as the headliners. Unfortunately, the band had technical difficulties right from the start and didn’t take the stage until about an hour and a half after their stated start time.
In addition, Migos’ 30-minute performance fell short of the 45-minute minimum required per the contract. Law enforcement officers responded to reports of a strong odor of marijuana coming from the group’s vehicles and ultimately arrested all three members of the group as well as 12 members of the entourage on charges of possession of controlled substances, possession of firearms within a school safety zone,
And possession of firearms by convicted felons (the latter charge was based on Offset’s prior criminal record and incarceration). Takeoff, Quavo, and six members of their crew were released on bond two days after the incident. The bonds for Offset and the other six defendants were not set.
Problems with the Law
Takeoff’s aircraft from Atlanta to Des Moines, Iowa encountered new problems right before takeoff in July of 2017. He was ordered to leave the plane after he allegedly refused to move his backpack from the floor to the overhead compartment.
In 2020, Takeoff was at the center of another issue when he was identified as the defendant in a civil case that accused him of sexual battery, assault, false detention, and other crimes.
A woman who claims she was assaulted by Takeoff at a Los Angeles house party filed the lawsuit. In 2021, the Los Angeles District Attorney‘s office stated that there was insufficient evidence to press criminal charges against Takeoff.
