Radric Delantic Davis was born in Bessemer, Alabama, on February 12, 1980. His father was on the run from authorities for distributing crack cocaine and heroin when he was born in Detroit, Michigan.
While his mother was at college, Davis was reared by his paternal grandmother. Mane was introduced to rap and hip hop at a young age by his elder half-brother Victor, who took him to a concert including Run-DMC, the Beastie Boys, and LL Cool J. Mane and his mother moved to Atlanta in 1989.
He grew up in a high-crime region. Mane started selling drugs in junior high. In seventh grade, he spent his Christmas money on crack cocaine to sell to others. Mane was a good student and well-liked by his peers in high school. Despite having a side career as a drug dealer, Mane did not use narcotics during his first few years in the business.
