Diane Ladd has been a regular in Hollywood for a long time, not just because she is Laura Dern’s mother. She has also done well as a producer, director, and actor. Diane’s most recent role was as the main character in the drama series Chesapeake Shores on the Hallmark Channel. However, she got sick in 2018 and had to leave the show.
I was curious about how Diane was doing lately. Does she still need to fight something off? And will Diane be in the last episode of the Chesapeake Shores season?
What illness Did Diane Ladd Have? Is She Still Sick?
Diane Ladd got pneumonia in 2018 and was told she had six months to live. She told Closer Weekly that her daughter Laura Dern went to work immediately and “went crazy and cried, “You can’t die!” I don’t have any brothers or sisters. Mom, you’re all I have!'” When Diane lived longer than the doctors thought she would, she said, “But I showed the doctors that they were wrong: I didn’t die. I had them fooled!”
Diane has said that she has no plans to stop working in Hollywood any time soon, even though she is now 85. “She told Closer Weekly, “Not as long as God lets me breathe and walk.” “I won’t go home until the last curtain falls on this play.”
In an interview with Elle Magazine in 2021, Laura said that the family took extra safety measures during the coronavirus pandemic to protect Diane, who was still vulnerable despite getting better from pneumonia. She said, “My mother had pneumonia, and her lungs were especially at risk. So, because they were so worried about her, it was a very locked-down time, just like it is for many of us when a family member is at risk.”
Laura added, “It was so beautiful to see how my kids came together to look out for her, watch movies, and take care of each other.” Diane’s 86th birthday was in 2021; her family gave her a cake in bed. She took a picture for Instagram and wrote a nice caption about how much she loved her mother.
“There’s nothing better than waking up my cute mom on her birthday with friends and cakes all around her. I love you more than I can say, amazing Diane!!! I’m a fortunate daughter.”
Did Diane Ladd Quit ‘Chesapeake Shores’?
The original Hallmark Channel drama Chesapeake Shores made its debut in 2016. It is based on the same-named book by Sherryl Woods. Abby O’Brien Winters, played by Meghan Ory, is a divorced mother of two young girls from New York City who moves back to her small hometown of Chesapeake Shores, Maryland.
Nell O’Brien, the family’s grandmother, is played by Diane Ladd on the show. She was the main person who took care of the family. IMDB says that Diane is in Chesapeake Shores Season 6, so she has not left the show and the show’s sixth and final season aired on August 14, 2022. Even if she is very sick, Diane can’t stop doing what she loves.
