In the majority of soapy, emotional, and stormy television programs, such as Virgin River, This Is Us, etc., the turbulent relationship at the center of the narrative is romantic. This cycle typically repeats numerous times throughout each season. It’s wonderfully pleasant, then, to see Netflix’s touching drama Firefly Lane put a benign spin on this genre by focusing on the same turbulent relationship between two best friends spanning more than three decades.
Katherine Heigl and Sarah Chalke play the adult versions of Tully and Kate, respectively, who have been inseparable since eighth grade when they became neighbors on Firefly Lane. The ten episodes of the first season span the next decades, from the beginning of their friendship in the 1970s through their midlife crises in the early 2000s. It’s an ode to the strength and tenacity of female friendship, but it’s also tremendously addicting television; good luck not watching all 10 hours in a single sitting!
Firefly Lane Season 2 Status
It took a few months, but Netflix finally confirmed that Firefly Lane will return for a second season on May 27th, 2021.
The revelation was shared on social media and on YouTube, where actors Katherine Heigel and Sarah Chalke answered fan questions and made the formal announcement.
Because the first season does not cover the entirety of the novel, there is still more of Tully and Kate’s journey to be told. Fly Away, a sequel to the novel, expands on the story even more.
Firefly Lane Season 2 Release Date Update
Katherine Heigl even announced on Instagram that Firefly Lane Season 2 will premiere in 2022. Even though it was good to know the release year for sure, it would have been even better to know the exact release date. But Netflix wouldn’t have known when season 2 of Firefly Lane would come out.
In Instagram post-Katherine Heigel Say “
Not seen the first season? Now’s your chance to catch up!
p.s. I’d love to share some behind the scenes pictures with y’all but I can’t… yet. 🙂 Sorry!”

Firefly Lane Season 2 Plot Expectation
— Maki (@heyitsmakii) October 1, 2021
In season 1, Tully and Kate’s relationship is shown in two very different ways. Tully assures Kate she’ll assist her obtain a job when she’s hired again after quitting her show. Kate says she never wants to see Tully again in a flashforward scene at a funeral.
Season 2 will reveal what shatters Tully and Kate’s relationship. Since this is a programme about friendship, we can’t think they won’t make up. It’s unclear whose funeral the confrontational finale takes place at. Since Tully attends, it’s Kate’s close friend’s funeral.
Kate’s ex-husband Johnny, who went to Iraq, or her father are possible contenders. The second season will explore how this affects Kate and Marah. Season 2 will examine Tully’s career, especially if she offers Kate a position. Since Firefly Lane is based on a popular novel, you can easily find out what happens to Tully and Kate. You may not like what you see…
