In a June 2014 interview, Hunnam reflected on his departure, stating, “I felt like I had an interesting take on that character and believed I could have done a good job playing Christian Grey; otherwise, I wouldn’t have taken it on in the first place.”

Hunnam further said, “When you put the time into something like that and a character comes alive in your mind, it’s heartbreaking not to be able to play him, it was definitely kind of heartbreaking having to say goodbye to that character and not bring it to life.”

Recently, TMZ caught up with Charlie Hunnam and inquired about his decision to exit Fifty Shades of Grey. Initially hesitant, he responded, “Aw man, can’t talk about this!” When the reporter pressed further, asking how the decision had impacted him over the past ten years, Hunnam humorously replied, “I’m not nearly as rich as I would have been.”

When asked if he changes the channel when the movie comes on TV, Hunnam confessed, “I haven’t seen it, but that’s not by design. I want to see it. I’ve been waiting!”
