Want to play more action-packed survival games like Squid Game? With Alice in Borderland, the dramatic Japanese TV series based on the manga series of the same name by Haro Aso, Netflix intends to provide more of that.

The popular Netflix original Japanese series Alice in Borderland, which was created by Yasuko Kuramitsu and Shinsuke Sato and debuted on the service on December 10, 2020, was quickly renewed.

Alice In Borderland Season 2 Release date

Netflix announced in November 2021 that Alice and Borderland season 2 would debut in December 2022. The streamer confirmed the thriller will return in late 2022 during a virtual Japan Festival event where they shared information about a few of their shows.

We have more wonderful news to announce. The official release date was announced by Netflix during TUDUM. On December 22, Netflix will release the second season!

Fans who were wanting to watch the new season sooner will be disappointed by the Dec. 2022 release date, although it is consistent with the first season’s release, which launched on Netflix on Dec. 10, 2020.

Alice In Borderland Season 2 Cast

The cast members who will be back for season two were included in a video that Netflix uploaded on Twitter, as was already known.

This group has Ryohei Arisu (Kento Yamazaki), Yuzuha Usagi (Tao Tsuchiya), Daikichi Karube (Keita Machida), Aguni Morizono (Sho Aoyagi), Chota Segawa (Yuki Morinaga), Shuntaro Chishiya (Nijiro Murakami), Ann Rizuna (Ayaka Miyoshi), Hikari Kuina.

Fans were pleasantly thrilled to see Dori Sakurada, who plays Suguru Niragi in the anime, return for Alice in Borderland’s second season.

Niragi, a local of “The Beach,” emerged as one of Arisu and Usagi’s principal foes from the moment they arrived at the resort. After being burned by Shuntaro Chisiya and vanquished by Aguni, fans initially thought Niragi had been killed off, however, the video seems to have proven his comeback.

Niragi will return, Sakurada himself announced on his personal Instagram, alongside a photo of the horribly burned Niragi.

This implies that there’s a chance that a few other characters could unexpectedly make a comeback from the grave, either through flashbacks or perhaps some unexpected twists.
Additionally, it has been revealed that the second season of the show would feature six new characters.

The new cast members are high school student Heiya played by Yuri Tsunematsu, Kyma (also known as “King of Clubs”) played by Tomohisa Yamashita, Banda played by Hayato Isomura, Matsushita played by Kai Inowaki, Yaba played by Katsuya Maiguma, and Kotoko played by Honami Sat (via Anime News Network).

What can we, therefore, anticipate from the newcomers? Netflix teased, “An action survivor, a seasoned gamer, a strange wild card.”

Although much information about the characters is yet unknown, given that Haro Aso, who created the manga, served as some of the inspiration for Arisu and Usagi, it’s probable that they will resemble him in some ways.

According to Aso, “I designed Arisu based on how I was when I was around 20 years old and remembered how I was at that age.”

He continued by saying that a facet of his nature that is “independent and doesn’t need to rely on others” has an impact on Usagi.

Alice In Borderland Season 2 Plot

Based on the graphic novels by Haro Aso, the show throws “listless, jobless and video-game obsessed” Arisu into an eerily empty alternate version of Tokyo, where he and his friends are forced to fight for their lives in a series of twisted challenges.

While the unfortunate contestants of Squid Game are competing for a huge cash prize, the residents of Borderland are simply trying to stay alive, with victory granting an extension to their “visas” in this strange new reality.

Tao Tsuchiya co-stars as Usagi, one of the first people he encounters in the games, who has nerves of steel from her days as a mountain climber and becomes an ally in the deadly tournament.

The first season of Alice in Borderland ended on a dark note, with the ominous announcement that Arisu, Usagi, and the other surviving players would soon be put through the second round of deadly games.

The news came courtesy of Mira, who was revealed to be a game master – one of the architects behind the whole macabre ordeal – which has already pushed our heroes to their limits.

Arisu lost his two closest friends Chōta and Karube, while he also found himself rocked by the revelation that he had been playing alongside traitors Momoka and Asahi.

Having suffered all this trauma, Arisu will likely be less trusting when it comes to the second round of games, but he does at least still have Usagi by his side for support.

The first eight episodes of Alice in Borderland adapted roughly half of the manga series by Haro Aso, meaning the second season could possibly bring the story to an end.

However, Netflix is known for getting the most of their original shows, so it’s possible the streamer could find a way to extend the Alice in Borderland saga even further.

About Previous Season

Arisu, a young man who is completely engrossed in video games, is forced into a fatal competition in a suddenly deserted Tokyo. The severity and urgency of each obstacle are indicated by the suit and number of a playing card, and Arisu must overcome them along with his two buddies under the control of an unknown force.

After his companions perish during one of the games, Arisu meets a young woman named Usagi and collaborates with her to solve the mystery at hand in order to acquire all the available playing cards. The Ten of Hearts is the only card still missing after their adventures take them to a big hotel filled with other players.

Many of the other players in the hotel are slain during the last challenge for the Ten of Hearts, but Arisu and Usagi find an underground room and discover the bodies of the persons they believed to be the “gamemasters.” The group is then presented to Mira, who informs them that the games have just started and that the face cards are now on the line.
