Aubrey O’Day, a singer, briefly locked her Instagram account over the weekend after becoming embroiled in a bizarre photoshopping controversy. Now, the actress is retaliating, claiming that her Instagram account is “curated like a museum of ART” and sharing a new photo of herself… dressed in a thong bikini, meeting Jesus at the gates of heaven.
The uproar began on Saturday, when a TikTok user’s video criticizing O’Day’s visibly photoshopped Instagram posts began to circulate on social media. For months, the former Danity Kane girl group member has been posting photos tagged from various tourist hotspots, primarily in Bali, but also in other locations such as the Greek island of Santorini.
O’Day is always dressed to the nines in the photographs, which are usually accompanied by an inspirational quote. However, the posts appear to have been crudely photoshopped, and as revealed by the TikTok video, many of the background images are lifted from other influencer content.
O’Day’s account was locked as speculation spread about her posts, but she’s now back, unapologetically sharing possibly her wildest Photoshop job to date.
In addition to telling fans that she’d recently been to heaven and “ran into Jesus and we hugged it out,” she hurled an unforgivable insult at the girl whose TikTok video had brought so much attention to her account.
“And, not to belabor the point, but I’ve been in this industry for over 20 years and have traveled the world since I was seven,” she wrote.
“If I want my Instagram to be curated like an ART museum, that’s what the f**k will happen.” I’m a true artist and creator. I do everything creative, from music to movies. “From my hair, glam, nails, styling, backdrops, editing, and shooting,” she went on. O’Day went on to explain why her vacation photos are so stylized: “The weather isn’t always perfect when I shoot, and I vacation alone,” she said.
For those who doubted that O’Day had been traveling the world without ever leaving her house, she has shared several more candid videos of herself during a Bali trip on her Instagram Stories. “I don’t need to be flown anywhere.” Not to mention that many of the shots I give you are in locations that require hours of climbing mountains to reach. Respect my aesthetic; I work hard to provide you with beautiful content that reflects the vibrancy of the places I visit. “I want you to vibrate high with me,” she wrote.
She ended her letter with a message to the “Lil tok girl” whose video had drawn so much attention to her page.
“I recommend that you learn this lesson quickly: You don’t even have to focus on others to be your own version of special and necessary in this world.” You can make a difference simply by using your own abilities. If you want to move forward, stop looking left and right.”
It’s not the first time O’Day’s Instagram photos have caused consternation; in 2020, paparazzi photos emerged of her running errands and looking like a completely different person than the blonde bombshell in her Instagram posts.
O’Day was furious, insisting that the photos were faked, but the photographer confirmed that they had not been tampered with and did, in fact, show O’Day.
