He began his professional football career as a dual-threat quarterback with the Oklahoma Sooners of the National Collegiate Athletic Association. He stated via the NCAA transfer portal in November 2021 that he would transfer to South Carolina on December 13.

He got 14 offers from NCAA Division I institutions by his sophomore year of high school, including Alabama, Notre Dame, and Miami. He ultimately elected to join Oklahoma and appeared in three games during the 2019 season, allowing him to redshirt his freshman year.
Following the departure of head coach Lincoln Riley to USC on November 29, 2021, he joined the NCAA transfer portal. He later declared his intention to relocate to South Carolina on December 13, 2021.
