Is Shakira Still In Jail?

Shakira’s Jail, But Why?
So, Shakira is currently in some legal controversy. The singer has been accused of not paying the Spanish government €14.5 million (£12.2m) in taxes between 2012 and 2014.
And She could spend up to eight years in prison after being ordered to stand trial for tax fraud. She is facing six serious charges that say she didn’t pay the Spanish government almost $5 Million in taxes between 2012 and 2014. She had to pay a $24.5 Million fine.
In 2019, she testified in front of a judge as part of an investigation into her alleged tax evasion, but she denied doing anything wrong. In 2021, she was accused of hiding assets with shell companies. She was also charged with signing tax haven forms.
The “Waka Waka” singer evaded €14.5m (£12.2m) in taxes. Shakira says she paid the government everything she owed and denies all allegations. She said that between 2012 and 2014, she lived in the Bahamas, so she didn’t have to pay income tax in Spain.
The singer also said she was in Spain “occasionally” during that time, but prosecutors said she was really living in Barcelona for more than six months of the year.
However, The singer could spend up to eight years in prison if she is found guilty.
What Are The Tax Fraud Allegations Against Shakira?
It was revealed in June 2022 that Spanish prosecutors were pushing for the harshest punishment possible for six separate counts of tax fraud totaling 14.5 million euros (£12.2 million).
In spite of moving to Barcelona in 2011 to be with her ex, the Spanish defender Gerard Pique, Shakira is accused of pretending to live abroad in order to avoid paying taxes.
As of August 9, 2022, she had already given the Spanish tax man about 3 million euros (£2.5 million).
Shakira used to live in the Bahamas and pay taxes there. In 2015, she moved to Spain and became a full-tax resident there.
All people who live in Spain legally must pay Spanish taxes on any money they earn outside of Spain.
Also, for tax purposes, people who live in Spain for more than 183 days in a given calendar year are considered Spanish residents.
Tax inspectors spent more than a year checking up on Shakira. They went to her favorite hairdresser in Barcelona and looked at her social media to try to prove that she spent most of the three years in dispute in Spain.
They found that she had been in Spain for 242 days in 2012, 212 days in 2013, and 243 days in 2014.
But people who work for the Colombian called the accusations and supposed findings “baseless.”
They had told The Sun Online before: Shakira’s agent stated to The Sun Online: “Shakira has always complied with the law and behaved honorably as a person and taxpayer. She has also faithfully followed the advice of PriceWaterhouse Coopers, a renowned and well-known tax firm.
“Unfortunately, the Spanish Tax Office, which loses one out of every two cases with its taxpayers, keeps breaking her rights and pursuing yet another pointless case.
“Shakira is sure that by the end of the court process, her innocence will be proven.”
In a statement, her PR firm, Llorente y Cuenca, also said, “She believes she is innocent and has decided to leave the matter up to the law.”
