Sarah Matthews, President Donald Trump’s former deputy press secretary, has been the focus of pregnancy speculation since testifying in a televised hearing before the January 6 Committee.
The 28-year-old political adviser, who resigned from the White House after the Capitol incident, was seen wearing a loose-fitting garment, which some viewers mistook for a pregnancy bump. However, Matthews has neither acknowledged nor rejected the claims, and there is no indication that she is pregnant.
Sarah’s Career and Testimony
Sarah Matthews, an Ohio native, received a public relations degree from Kent State University. Before becoming the press secretary for the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, she interned for Senator Rob Portman and former House Speaker John Boehner.
She went on to work as a spokesperson for Trump’s 2020 presidential campaign and subsequently as the White House’s deputy press secretary. Matthews resigned from her position on January 6, 2021, after witnessing the violence and pandemonium at the Capitol.
She stated that she was “deeply disturbed” by what she witnessed and called for a peaceful transition of power. The January 6 Committee subpoenaed her to speak about what she knew and saw that day, and she complied. On July 21, 2022, she appeared in a primetime hearing alongside Matthew Pottinger, former deputy national security adviser.
Matthews informed the committee that she was in the Oval Office with Trump, Pottinger, and other advisers when they learned that a group of Trump supporters had occupied the Capitol.
She claimed that Trump was first hesitant to convey a message to his supporters to stop the violence and that he then tweeted an assault on Vice President Mike Pence, who was overseeing the certification of electoral votes.
She stated that she and Pottinger attempted to persuade Trump to call off the riots, but he ignored their advice. She further described the Capitol scene as a “coup attempt” and claimed that Trump gave the insurgents the “green light”.
Sarah’s Personal Life
Sarah Matthews is married to Jonathan Connerty, a journalist and producer. They have a 10-year-old son, Otis, born in 2013. The family lives in Washington, D.C., where Matthews works as a senior advisor for a strategic management consulting firm.
Matthews has not publicly addressed the pregnancy rumors, nor has she posted any photographs of herself on social media that could corroborate or refute them. She has also made no mention of future ambitions to increase her family. As a result, it is uncertain if she is pregnant or not, and conjecture has yet to be proven.
