Mike left his home in Tallahassee, Florida, on December 16, 2000, early in the morning with his boat in tow to go duck hunting. He never came back from it, though. He was last seen in Lake Seminole, a big lake west of the city.
Since his boat was found abandoned on the lake, people thought that he had fallen off of it and drowned and that alligators had eaten his body. There were no signs of him, but six months later, waders and a jacket with his hunting license were found. At that point, he was considered legally dead.
Mike’s body was found buried in mud near Carr Lake years after he died. His death was ruled to have been caused by murder. It was found that he had been killed by a bullet to the head. Mike’s mother, Cheryl, never believed the alligator theory.
For years, she tried to get the governors and state agents to look into her son’s case again, but to no avail. So, when, after 17 years, she finally found out the truth, it was a relief for her. Even though she was still very sad, she at least knew what had happened to her son.
Who Killed Jerry Michael Williams?
Mike’s death was caused by his wife, Denise, and his best friend, Brian Winchester. Since 1997, they had been having an affair. Instead of getting a divorce, Denise wanted to get rid of Mike for good so she wouldn’t have to share custody of their daughter with him.
