Jamie Campbell Bower has a lot of tattoos, but Vecna doesn’t. After a video of his Stranger Things transformation from human to creature of the Upside Down went viral on social media, fans got to see some of the actor’s tattoos.
“I came dressed as the character, so I’m sitting very still in the makeup chair and not really talking to anyone. I find that music helps me a lot. “I find it to be a very visceral experience,” he told Variety in May 2022, adding that the character was “90 percent” makeup and not CGI. “I had a few records that I kept playing over and over again while I was building the character I was playing, so it was like my subconscious was showing.”
The article says that it took him almost eight hours to put on all the makeup and his Vecna suit. So, nothing about Jamie could be seen, not even his beautiful tattoos. Fans could see Jamie’s whole body in the now-famous video of his time-consuming transformation for The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones. This included the tattoos on both arms and the large designs on his chest.
Stranger Things fans were amazed by how well the actor brought the monster to life in the clip with the title “Can’t talk right now, I’m becoming Vecna.” But when he was in costume, it was “very hard” for the actor to go to the bathroom.
“The top half of the costume is stuck to my body, and the bottom half is like these pants with a flap,” he told TVLine in July 2022, explaining that someone “would have to stand outside the bathroom.”
Jamie said, “I can’t really touch anything. I had these nails stuck on, as well as the hands. So I’d come back from the bathroom with, say, a nail coming off and ask makeup effects artist Mike Mekash to fix my finger. I’m very sorry!'”

His Hand Tattoos
On the middle finger of his left hand, Jamie has a tattoo of a skull, and on the middle finger of his right hand, he has a tattoo of a cross.
His Chest Tattoos
On his upper body, the actor has tattoos of a skull, a heart with butterflies, and a spider.
Left Arm Tattoo
A ball and chain are attached to Jamie’s left bicep.
His Anchor Tattoo
He has a tattoo of an anchor on the right side of his bicep.
Upper Right Arm
On the inside of Jamie’s right arm, there is a tattoo of a bird.
Right Forearm Tattoo
He has a rose and the words “Love Always and Forever” written on his arm.
