Beta testing for both developers and the general public has been ongoing since Apple unveiled iOS 16 at WWDC in June. Apple announced that the new software will be made available on September 12 during its iPhone 14 announcement. The most recent version of the iPhone software includes a new Home app, customized iPhone Lock Screens, updated notifications, an undo button and editing for Messages, and much more. Following Apple’s September iPhone event, the major iOS updates are released each year. On September 12 of this year, Apple will release iOS 16 to the general public.

- Interestingly, this was an outlier as Apple launched the public release just one day after its iPhone 12 event

- iOS 11 arrived at 10 am PT / 1 pm ET

Apple is releasing its new software the week following the iPhone event, just like last year. Only once in the previous five years did the iOS upgrade not go live at 10 am Pacific Time.

Release date for iPadOS 16?
Apple has already stated that the release of iPadOS 16 will not coincide with the release of the new iPhone software this year.
It is “an extremely big year for iPadOS,” according to Apple, including Stage Manager and other new features. We have the freedom to release iPadOS on its own timeline because it is its own platform with features tailored particularly for the iPad. After iOS, iPadOS will release version 16.1 this Fall as a free software update.
When is iOS 16 available?

What time does Apple publish updates to iOS?
Around 10 AM Pacific, Apple usually always releases an iOS software update. That very certainly applies to iOS 15.7’s final release.
Is iOS 16 available?
Like in previous years, the iOS 16 will debut on September 12—a Monday. The features that have already been implemented in the last few iterations are not significantly changed by iOS 16.
Is iOS 16’s public beta available?
On September 12, everyone with an iPhone that supports iOS 16 will be able to download iOS 16. Apple will continue to work on IOPS 16 after the initial release, so additional beta versions should appear over the coming months.
