Team Usa and England Will Meet at World Cup 2022

The draw has been made for the World Cup, and Team USA have its name in the hat following a successful qualifying campaign. Soccer is becoming more popular than ever in the United States, and the World Cup in 2026 will be hosted by the US, Mexico and Canada. Sports fans will be counting down the days to get the party started for what is being billed as United 2026, but lovers of soccer and Team USA can’t afford to look beyond Qatar, at least for now. All eyes will be on the Arab World in November and December.

There are some huge matches to look forward to with the USA dropped into a group with England, Iran, and the winners of a yet-to-be-decided playoff involving Scotland, Wales and Ukraine. That has been delayed due to the war in Ukraine, but it’s hoped the final in the group will be decided before the summer. England are the favourites with the best sportsbooks to finish the first three games in pole position, but to achieve that, the Three Lions must see off a USA side that is determined to make an impression in Qatar.

Whan can fans expect from the USA v England match? The pool winner could be decided in that game, and there’s plenty to look forward to. We can hardly wait, but to help run down the clock, we preview the match, working through the facts, figures and head to head scores relating to this fixture. The goal is to arm our readers with all the information they need to make a strong prediction on how the match will play out.

Will England do as the experts expect and bag all three points, or will Team USA pull off an upset? Let’s take a closer look.

Dates for your diary

The World Cup in Qatar will begin on the 21st of November, with the final played on the 18th of December, with all matches shown live on television and through the best live streaming apps. This will be the most-watched World Cup in history, thanks to an increase in the number of broadcasters screening the play and the improvement in live streaming apps. Armchair fans who can’t make it to Qatar just a few weeks before Christmas can keep pace with the games and scores from the comfort of their home or when on the move using an HD-quality live stream through an iOS or Android smartphone.

The USA, England, and Iran will be joined by the winner of the remaining European qualifier, with the group matches beginning on 21st of November. Round two will be played four days later before the pool winds up, with round three on 29th November. After three matches, the best-performing teams will progress to the knockout rounds, with the others returning home, left to focus on their qualifying campaign for the next World Cup in four years.

The main date for your diary is 25th November when England and the USA will play in game two of three in the pool. That match will be hosted at the Al Bayt Stadium in Al Khor, with a crowd of over 60,000. Will England collect three points and strengthen their push for knockout football? Only time will tell, but we can take some clues from past meetings of the nations.

Three Lions lead the way

The history books show England and USA have met 11 times previously, with the Three Lions leading the way on wins. The head to head stats show the Brits have eight wins against the two of the USA and one draw. The most recent was an international friendly match played in November 2018 at Wembley Stadium in London, and the home team made their advantage pay with a 3-0 victory. The goals that day were scored by Jessie Lingard, Trent Alex-Arnold and Callum Wilson.

The match previous to that one produced a 1-1 draw at the World Cup in 2010 when a goal for Steven Gerrard inside the opening four minutes of play was cancelled by Clint Dempsey just before halftime. We have to go back to 1993 for USA’s last win over England, and that was a 2-0 in a friendly match.
