Randy Orton hasn’t been back on WWE TV since May 2022. He badly injured his back and had to undergo spinal fusion surgery late last year. Since then, there haven’t been many updates on “The Viper’s” condition, but WWE allegedly brought him to Los Angeles for WrestleMania 39 weekend last month.

In a recent interview with Wrestle Binge, WWE Hall of Famer “Cowboy” Bob Orton talked about his son’s health. He said that doctors may have told Orton not to get back in the ring (while also pointing out that likely won’t stop him from doing so).

“He’s training. We’ll see what happens,” the wrestling legend told Bill Apter (h/t Fightful). “I don’t know if he feels like going back or, when it feels like he’s ready to go back, I think he might. Then again, he’s pretty well taken care of, I don’t think he needs to. I think the doctors have told him not to. Randy will do what Randy’s going to do.”

When Does Randy Orton Want To Leave The WWE?

Orton had planned to stay with WWE for a long time before his back accident, even though he had been there for over 20 years. He interviewed in January 2022, “I’m 41  (now 43). I think I’ll be finished when I’m 50.

But I’m not like, I’ll do auditions occasionally, but I almost always do them because my wife says, “Oh, do them, because what if you don’t?” Then you’ll wonder what you would do if you did.’ So, I go to auditions here and there and cross my fingers that I don’t get called back because I love what I do. I don’t want to stop. I don’t want to have to stop because of my body.

“So I’ve taken it upon myself to make sure I’m doing everything I can on the daily that physically I’m able to continue. But if it was up to me, and I knew physically it wouldn’t be a problem, I’d say I’d wrestle until I’m 50 years old. And I would go out and have that last match when I’m 50 and be able to say I did it on my own terms. That’s 9 years from now. But I don’t see an end to my career any time soon. I’d like to continue to go,”

What Happened To Randi Orton In 2022?

In 2022, Randy Orton’s injury became a significant topic of discussion among the WWE Universe. The accomplished wrestler, who had won the WWE Championship 10 times, encountered a horrifying incident that cast doubt on his future in the ring. While fans remain hopeful for his quick recovery and return, the possibility of retirement looms.

Randy Orton has been a prominent figure in the pro wrestling industry, making his debut on the main roster in 2002 and consistently delivering exceptional performances. His championship wins and compelling character work have cemented his status as one of the industry’s top performers.

Before his unexpected hiatus, Orton was reportedly considered for a match against Roman Reigns at SummerSlam. However, his last appearance occurred on the May 20, 2022, episode of SmackDown, where he competed alongside Matt Riddle in a ‘Winner Takes All’ match against The Usos. Orton appeared visibly injured following the loss.

Subsequent reports confirmed that the 42-year-old wrestler had suffered a back injury, requiring medical attention from spine surgeons and neurosurgeons to address the issue.
