Chris Pratt has a theory about why he isn’t as popular as the other Chrises in Hollywood. In an interview with Men’s Health that came out on Tuesday, the star of Jurassic World: Dominion talked about the “Worst Chris” controversy from 2020 when the internet called him the least likable Chris in Hollywood (Evans, Hemsworth, and Pine).

The actor, who recently said he doesn’t like to be called Chris, said he thinks the “internet bile” against him has to do with the speech he gave when he accepted the Generation Award at the 2018 MTV Movie & TV Awards.

“God exists. God loves you. God wants you to be happy, “In the speech, he said. Now that he’s thought about it, Pratt told the outlet, “Maybe it was arrogance on my part to get up on stage and say what I did. I don’t know if I touched anyone.”

He also said that he can understand why people might have been turned off by the religious tone of the speech “Religion has been hard as f—- to deal with for a long time. I didn’t realize that I would become the face of religion, even though I’m not religious.”

The Chris mess made the Avengers come together to defend Pratt. His Marvel co-stars Robert Downey Jr., Mark Ruffalo, Zoe Saldana, and director James Gunn all said on social media that his character was “as solid a man as there is.”

Pratt said he tries not to “get caught complaining or anything” because of his success, but he did say that the negative things people say about him online can hurt. For example, he talked about another round of criticism he got last November, when he was made fun of after posting a tribute to his wife, Katherine Schwarzenegger, on Instagram.

In the post, he thanked Schwarzenegger for giving him “an amazing life” and a “gorgeous, healthy daughter.” Some saw this as a jab at his ex-wife Anna Faris and their son Jack, who was born prematurely and has had health problems because of it.

Pratt told the magazine Men’s Health that the backlash “really f—-ing bothered” him and made him cry. “There were a lot of articles that said, “That’s so cringeworthy.” I can’t believe Chris Pratt would thank her for having a healthy daughter when his first child was born early. That’s such a dig at his ex-wife,'” he said, calling the answer “f—-ed up.”

“One day, my son will read that,” Pratt said. “He’s 9. It’s also written in digital stone. It really messed with me, man. It made me cry. I thought, “I hate that these good things in my life are such a burden to the people closest to me.”
